Music Production Masterclass

with Tom Marshallsay

(General Ludd, Dam Mantle)

An Lanntair’s arts and technology workshop, Clàr is excited to welcome renowned producer and DJ, Tom Marshallsay to deliver a special masterclass session.

Tom has an extensive back catalogue under his collaborative project General Ludd and his Dam Mantle alias, in addition to remixes and production credits under various other guises. His music is heavily percussive and often experimental, referencing elements of techno, jazz and bass music.

Past records have been released on electronic labels such as Berlin’s Osgut Ton, New York’s Mister Saurday Night and Glasgow’s Rubadub. He has performed at nightclubs around the world including sets at Berghain’s infamous Panorama Bar in Berlin and London’s Fabric.

This workshop will concentrate on the versatile Drum Rack instrument in Ableton Live, which is a cornerstone of Tom’s production style. We will learn how to create patterns, sequence beats and create our own sample banks from field recordings and real instruments, with a focus on microphone skills and developing our musical palettes. By the end of the session all participants will have created a piece of original music.

In addition to this Tom will be on hand to offer advice and guidance on the creative process of music making.

The workshop is open to musicians of any style and ability and no equipment is needed to participate.
