Workshop and Courtyard Party with special guest, Junglehussi

Stornoway Sound System is an all day celebration of D.I.Y. Soundsystem culture and music. We’ll explore the sounds and origins of the soundclash, look at how these stacks of bass bins inspired the rave scene and consider the ‘do it yourself’ spirit that is fundamental to progressive cultural movements. Guest DJ, Matthew Arthur Williams (aka Junglehussi) will lead a hands on workshop looking at everything from organising your set to perfecting a mix and playing it out live on a specially constructed speaker rig in An Lanntair’s courtyard. We’ll look at the basics of building a speaker box, what knowledge and tech you need to get start your own rig and how to do it on the cheap. Plus we’ll put together some mini boom boxes to take away. No prior experience necessary, open to all musical tastes and abilities. Ages 14-25, booking required.

From 3pm we’ll move things outside and turn up the bass, starting with the chance for workshop participants to put their practice into action! The afternoon will continue with sets from local DJs alongside a special Junglehussi selection.

The party will run alongside the opening of An Lanntair’s Grinneas nan Eilean islands open exhibition. (Fingers crossed for sunshine!)
